Update maps

The normal setup takes only a few steps. Leave the Garmin device disconnected until the application is installed, then use a reliable data-capable USB cable when Garmin Express asks you to add a device.
Use the buttons above or open the platform page to confirm the minimum operating system. Do not use a Windows EXE on a Mac or a Mac DMG on Windows.
Run GarminExpress.exe on Windows or open GarminExpress.dmg and follow the Mac installation prompt. Approve the normal operating-system permission request when it appears.
Open the installed application. Sign in only when a task needs your Garmin account; downloading the desktop installer itself does not require an account on this site.
Attach the Garmin device directly to the computer with a USB data cable, choose Add a Device, and follow the prompts for registration, map updates or software updates.
Garmin Express is designed for computer-based device maintenance. Available functions depend on the connected product, region, account and map entitlement, so not every card below applies to every Garmin device.

Avoid update failuresAssociate a compatible product with a Garmin account during initial setup. Registration can help the application identify services and content available to that device.
Initial setup stepsSome supported devices can upload activities and wellness information to Garmin Connect through the desktop application. This is different from using the Connect website or mobile app.
Compare Express and ConnectGarmin lists support for free and paid content such as accessory maps and some Connect IQ content. Availability varies by product and entitlement.
Check compatibility firstCompatible golf products may receive CourseView updates, while supported marine products can use relevant chart and service workflows. Follow the device-specific prompt shown in Express.
Get task helpGarmin publishes an installation video for the desktop application. Use it as a visual reference, then return to the written guide for current requirements, download-source checks and platform-specific troubleshooting.
Use one focused page for each decision. Platform pages explain the current installer; the compatibility page covers minimum requirements; the help pages continue from installation into updates and fault finding.
The right Garmin Express download for your device is determined by the computer that will manage it. Choose the Windows installer for a PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Choose the Mac installer for a computer running macOS 13 or newer. Both buttons on this page lead to Garmin's download host, but the EXE and DMG cannot be used interchangeably.
Before starting the Garmin Express download for your computer, confirm that it has a stable high-speed connection, a working USB data port and enough storage for the task. Garmin recommends allowing up to 20 GB for map operations even though the installer files are smaller. Keep a laptop connected to power and do not let it sleep during a long map or device-software update.
Use an older Garmin Express download for a computer only when its operating system cannot run the current application. Garmin provides specific legacy files for older Windows and Mac systems; an unofficial archive is not the same as an official fallback. If the intended task is activity or health synchronization on a phone, use Garmin Connect instead of looking for a mobile Garmin Express installer.
These answers address the decisions people most often face before downloading Garmin Express. Device-specific support can still vary, so use Garmin's support site when a product prompt or entitlement is unclear.

No. The Windows and Mac buttons link to files hosted on download.garmin.com. The countdown is a transparent source handoff; this site does not modify, wrap or redistribute either installer.
Use GarminExpress.exe from Garmin's server. Garmin lists Microsoft .NET 4.7.2 as included, so you normally do not need to locate a separate .NET installer first. Windows may request administrator approval during setup.
Garmin says Express may require up to 20 GB of free disk space. The installer files are much smaller, but map downloads and temporary update files can use substantially more storage.
It can detect and manage many compatible devices, but update availability depends on the exact model, map entitlement, connection and Garmin support status. Connect the device and let Express report what is available rather than assuming every older model receives a new map.
No. Garmin Express is the Windows and Mac desktop manager used for device maintenance. Garmin Connect is the web and mobile platform centered on activities, health, fitness data and connected-device services.
